DEPARTURE(S): Julian Barnes
DEPARTURE(S)
by Julian Barnes
Departure(s) is one of those hybrid genres - part memoir, part fiction, part essay - that quickens my heart. In this, his final book, Barnes explores memory, frailty and his ‘impending silence’. Weaved throughout is the tale of Jean and Stephen who are given a second chance at love. Bidding us, his readers, adieu, already I’m calling this my book of the year.
