Melanie’s creative writing sessions in schools have been described by kids as ‘Amazing!’, ‘Super fun’ and ‘Got me out of Maths’, so if you’re keen to let your imagination off the leash and learn some tricks of the wordsmithery trade, please join Melanie for a jam-packed story writing session, unlike any other.

Also, you know those festival sessions where the kids get creative while the adults sit up the back, looking at their phones? This is not that. Parents and carers, we’d like you to get involved in this session too. You don’t have to but, if you don’t, your kids reserve the right to lecture you about the importance of trying new things and being creative and brave for at least a month. You have been warned.

Melanie La’Brooy

Melanie La'Brooy’s writing career spans romantic comedies, newspaper columns and children's books. She is the author of five romantic comedy novels which were published in Australia and in multiple overseas territories, including the US and UK. Her debut fantasy novel for children, The Wintrish Girl, won the Aurealis Award and the DANZ award, was shortlisted for the Readings Children's Prize and longlisted for the CBCA Book of the Year.

Melanie is currently writing a new middle-grade novel, as well as a book for adult readers, drawing on her experiences during the years she spent living in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Also, Melanie's surname is pronounced La-Broy, to rhyme with Troy. It's confusing, she knows.
