Australian Animal Rainbow

with Sarah Jane Lightfoot and Annabelle Hale

Join Sarah and Annabelle in a colour themed workshop exploring the rainbow of Australian animals around us. We will learn each illustrator's own drawing process and add then create our own illustration to a banner, making a rainbow of animal art together.

This session is part of Melbourne Kids Book Fest’s Day 1 program for Bookworms (Ages 5-8)

Sarah Jane Lightfoot

Sarah Jane Lightfoot is a Melbourne-based author and illustrator whose stories celebrate the everyday magic of neighbourhood life, encouraging readers to slow down and discover beauty in the familiar. After studying Textile Design at RMIT, she spent more than a decade as a textile designer before swapping fashion prints for picture books. Her work combines lyrical storytelling with warm, detailed illustrations, often inspired by nature and family life. When she’s not sketching on her iPad or painting at her home in Eltham, Sarah is chasing after her daughter and dreaming up new stories to share with young readers.

Annabelle Hale

Annabelle Hale is an author/illustrator based in Naarm/Melbourne. She loves creating fun characters and using bright colours to make people smile. Her illustration style is energetic and playful, using a variety of traditional (watercolour, colour pencil and gouache) and digital mediums. Annabelle’s debut picture book as an author/illustrator, The Bin Monster, was published in 2025 with Affirm Press.
