CLASSICS BOOK CLUB

Welcome to our Classics Book Club, where we eschew the latest bestsellers to celebrate books that have stood the test of time! Join your fellow bibliophiles as we read or reread classic works of literature together and discuss great books from throughout the ages.

We will be embracing a broad definition of the term classic, revisiting old favourites as well as discovering overlooked gems, translated masterpieces, mid-century moderns and those canonical texts you didn’t get around to at school.

THIS MONTH

July’s book is Dubliners by James Joyce.

Yes, James Joyce! But don’t be intimidated, Dubliners is by far Joyce’s most accessible book and we feel sure you’ll be surprised by how enjoyable it is to read.

A collection of 15 short stories, Dubliners gives the reader vivid glimpses into the ordinary lives of the denizens of the city at the turn of the 20th Century. Published in 1914, these stories developed Joyces naturalistic style of realism and playful use of language while delving into the joys and sorrows of everyday life in Dublin.
