CLASSICS BOOK CLUB
Welcome to our Classics Book Club, where we eschew the latest bestsellers to celebrate books that have stood the test of time! Join your fellow bibliophiles as we read or reread classic works of literature together and discuss great books from throughout the ages.
We will be embracing a broad definition of the term classic, revisiting old favourites as well as discovering overlooked gems, translated masterpieces, mid-century moderns and those canonical texts you didn’t get around to at school.
THIS MONTH
In March, we’ll be reading Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s 1967 novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude. A multi-generational story that spans over a century and follows the Buendia family in the fictional town of Macondo. Exploring themes of destiny, isolation, and the repetitive nature of history, Marquez details the impact of solitude on human relationships and the consequences of ignoring history. A pillar of magical realism, the book is often recognised as one of the supreme achievements of world literature.
