Book Description:

Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are intelligent children. They are charming, and resourceful, and have pleasant facial features. Unfortunately, they are exceptionally unlucky.

In the first two books alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune, a lumpy bed, a deadly serpent, a large brass reading lamp, a long knife, and a terrible odour.

In the tradition of great storytellers, from Dickens to Dahl, comes an exquisitely dark comedy that is both literary and irreverent, hilarious and deftly crafted. Never before has a tale of three likeable and unfortunate children been quite so enchanting, or quite so uproariously unhappy.

Review by Grace
“If you are interested in stories with happy endings, you would be better off reading some other book.”
This is the opening sentence in the first book of the wonderful book series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, by Lemony Snicket. This series tells the tale of the three Baudelaire children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who lead lives filled with misfortune.

Their troubles begin when a terrible fire destroys their home, their possessions and their parents. After that, they are sent to a variety of locations to live, ranging

from a lumbermill to a high-rise apartment building, and all the time they are pursued by Count Olaf, a despicable villain, who was their first guardian after their parents’ death. The Baudelairs’ parents left behind an enormous fortune, and it seems that Count Olaf will do anything to get his hands on it. I’m certainly not going to tell you the outcome of the series - but I will say that it is not a happy ending for anyone involved.
