When was the last time you stopped and reflected on the life you've led and the decisions you've made? When was the last time you hoped to forget about someone or something in your past?
Why is it that our only escape reminds us of the ones and things we're trying to forget? The ones that hurt us so much? The ones we can't leave behind.

Typical Winton in its peacefulness with nature, the words of this book crash, lull and ebb like the surf he describes so elegantly. The relationships and bonds he details can only remind you of your own.I'm still not convinced that I wasn't part of Pikelet's transformation into adulthood, it was that real and vivid. A deserving Miles Franklin winner, if you haven't read it yet, read it now.
